Continuation of the second excavation campaign in summer 2004
In July/August 2004, the BAI, in cooperation with the GPIA in Amman (Dr. Jutta Häser) and under the auspices of the German Protestant Institute Hannover, conducted a two-week archaeological field school as part of the GPIA Course Programme. It was the first attempt at this combination – with positive results, so that a continuation of the programme is envisaged.
In summer 2004, several stratigraphic questions relating to some of the squares that were opened in spring 2004 (AN 118; AN 119; AO 118) were resolved. The pottery documentation (including the database) was also reviewed and optimised by a programme update. A team of scientists from South Tyrol, Italy, joined the excavation and tested new documentation methods.
At the same time, the geophysical investigations in Hirbet ez-Zeraqon were continued and successfully completed.
